DEAR EDITOR:
Following the storm that raged through Rutledge several weeks ago, I walked outside to survey the damage. Trees had been pushed down and limbs and debris clogged our local streets.
After I started clearing some of the debris with my electric chainsaw, a strange and wonderful thing occurred.
Without prompting or asking, several local men appeared, saws and muscles at the ready.
Together, we formed a squad that methodically cleared out local streets of limbs and debris. Three hours later and all was safe and clear in our small town.
These men, with no call to action, came without hesitation or coercion to help their neighbors and their community. They came out quietly and left the same way after the job was done.
They did so with glad hearts and a sense of service.
Our town owes them a moment of thanks.
So thanks, Earnest “Woo” Clark, Cornelius Garrett, Charlie Harris, Greg Harris and Damone Harris. It is because of people like you that make all communities a better place and Rutledge a special place.
Bruce Altznauer,
Mayor of Rutledge
