DEAR EDITOR:

Tuesday, Dec. 7, I asked my husband to identify a dark area on our kitchen blind. The area was about four inches in diameter and located about three feet from the floor. He looked and said: “It’s a bat!” I called Madison Animal Control.

Officer Sherry MacKean of Animal Control came in less than 10 minutes. She was wearing very thick leather gloves and caught the little fellow with her gloved hands. We took pictures, and then she released him into the back yard. He flew away to who knows where.

Sherry was prompt, efficient, and courteous. She even said she could smell bats. Madison is so fortunate to have her working for them.

While I know that some bats carry rabies, I just hope that “our” bat will come back to our yard this summer to eat hundreds — maybe thousands — of mosquitoes.

Carroll B. Simpson,

Madison
