William Bearden Chambers passed away peacefully at home in Madison, Georgia on December 10, 2021 at the age of 85. Born in Madison on October 9, 1936 , the son of Dorothy (Dot) Chambers and L.B. Chambers, Bill attended Morgan County High School and the University of Georgia Terry School of Business, graduating Cum Laude in 1958. Upon his return to Madison, Bill joined his father managing the family businesses and began his career at the Bank of Madison as a cashier in 1967. He retired in 1996 after serving for 25 years as Vice President and was a member of the Bank's Board of Directors from 1963 until 2019. Bill enjoyed traveling, UGA football and basketball, and had a lifelong passion for arts and culture. He supported the First United Methodist Church, UGA academics and athletics, the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, the Morgan Medical Center, and Georgia Public Broadcasting. He is survived by his sisters Dottie Porter and Jane Bostwick and six nieces and nephews: Rob Bennett (Katie); Mary Ryan (Hurley); Leigh Morris (Brannon); John Bostwick (Tricia); Lyn Bennett and Dee Kelnhofer (Frank). The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Zant and his staff, especially Juanita Tyson, for their care through the years. We would also like to express our appreciation for the wonderful care given by Kenny Ingram, Venus Moon, Ruby Reynolds and Charlene Cox. Graveside services were held at the Madison City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Madison Methodist Church or the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.
