Morgan County Director of Planning and Development Chuck Jarrell Monday told the Buckhead Town Council that an engineering firm was making requests concerning property at the intersection of Seven Islands Road and Parks Mill Road regarding potential development.
“They are looking at the whole corner,” Jarrell said.
Jarrell told the council that he had received several phone calls inquiring on zoning restrictions and opportunities for the approximately 2.5 acre site that currently includes two residential houses, a store and the old Buckhead Town Hall.
Council members questioned Jarrell on who was making the inquiries. “I have no idea,” he said. “They won’t tell me what it is.”
“They could park a Dollar General right there,” Council member Richard Harris speculated.
The information came, in part, during a discussion by the Buckhead Town Council during a work session on Monday night to continue discussing changes to the town’s zoning ordinance. The town has a moratorium on new development until May so it could review and revise its ordinances. However, Harris said he was ready to move forward. Harris said he had been frustrated with the process.
“All I know is this started in December and here we are in April and we haven’t done anything. If nobody has a specific thing they want to propose then I think we should just move on.”
Council Member John White made a motion to continue to discuss the ordinance review at the town’s regular Monday meeting April 19. The motion passed.
