Seth Stapleton was a Morgan County High School football player who tragically died in a car crash during his senior year in 2015. Six years later, his family and friends continue to honor his memory with a scholarship fundraiser and community activity Seth loved to do.

The Sixth Annual Shoot for Seth, orchestrated by the Stapleton family and the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Old Hudson Plantation in Sparta. The sporting clay tournament will feature 100 targets, a barbeque lunch, a raffle, auction items, T-shirts, and shotgun games.

Seth Stapleton was the son of Ray and Angela Stapleton and brother of Andrew Stapleton. Seth was killed in a single car wreck in the early morning of Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, just hours after the big homecoming game that year. The Morgan County High School Bulldogs Football Team permanently retired Seth’s jersey number, number 71, to forever remember Seth’s time on the team.

His loved ones remember Seth as an avid outdoorsman and athlete. Seth was not only a player for the Morgan County High School Bulldogs football team, he was also a part of the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team, even making it to a national competition in Illinois. He also loved fishing and duck hunting. But most of all, Seth is remembered for how he loved his family and friends. His number one heroes were his brother Andrew, and his parents. He cared deeply for his friends and teammates. Now, his loved ones are carrying on his legacy and keeping his memory alive.

On the day of the Shoot for Seth, on Saturday, Sept. 25, registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. First flight starts at 9 a.m. and second flight starts at 2:30 p.m. The Old Hudson Plantation is located at 299 Skeet Lane in Sparta, Georgia.

The registration fee is $100 for adults and $85 for youth 18 and younger. Kids under the age of 12 can register for just $8 dollars and lunch for a non-shooter attendee is $12. All proceeds go to benefit the Seth Stapleton Memorial Scholarship fund. Every year, recipients of the scholarship fund must be nominated for the award. In 2020 alone, 37 local students were awarded with Seth Stapleton Memorial Scholarship fund. To find out more information visit:
