2020 Christmas in the Country

Rutledge’s Christmas in the Country celebration in 2020.

Rutledge is ringing in the Holiday season with its annual Christmas in the Country celebration this Saturday, Nov. 20 in the city’s Town Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come Saturday, Rutledge will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the holiday season. The streets will be decked out with lights, garland, and red ribbons. Storefronts will be aglow with Christmas trees and shiny decorations.

This year’s Christmas in the Country celebration will feature festive foods, holiday music, handmade crafts, and a parade led by Mayor Bruce Altznauer and Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley, with good ol’ Saint Nick himself expected to make an appearance.

“This is a great opportunity for friends and family to get together in Downtown Rutledge and celebrate the holidays together,” said Mayor Altznauer.

This year’s festivities will also feature a Chili Cook-Off competition benefiting the Morgan County Special Olympics organization.

“We are pleased to announce that the Morgan County Special Olympics organization is chairing the Rutledge Chili Cook-Off 2021,” said Noelle Brownlee, a special education teacher. “There will be 200 tasting kits provided, along with serving gloves, hand sanitizer, table cloths, and trash cans. Tasting kits for patrons will be $5 each.”

Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. All proceeds will go to benefit the Morgan County Special Olympics.
