A woman who alleged a man had been stalking her and had threatened her life, was arrested for aggravated assault after she told Madison Police Department officers she had fired a shot at the man.
The man, 53-year-old Melvin Eugene Reid from Greensboro, was arrested fleeing from the woman’s Lark Martin Street residence and eventually faced multiple charges after he allegedly resisted arrest, took a Taser weapon from an officer and attempted to flee from police.
According to Madison Police Department reports, Nicky Briscoe Keeley, 47, Madison, told officers that at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, Reid came by her residence and allegedly “used loose threats against her saying that he was coming for her.” Keeley told officers that Reid, who is the father of Keeley’s child, has a no contact order against him but she alleged he continued to harass her. Keeley alleged Reid had “been stalking her for weeks and has been threatening her,” reports state.
After Reid came by her residence in a vehicle, Keeley said she sat in her car and waited. Reid allegedly parked his vehicle at a car wash on Cox Road and walked back to Keeley’s residence. Keeley said as Reid came around the corner of her house she filmed him with her phone and Reid left. Keeley said Reid returned and this time she pulled a pistol and Reid allegedly told Keeley if “she was going to pull a gun she would have to use it.”
Reports state Keeley exited her vehicle, gun in hand and Reid began to run. Keeley said she fired a single round from her Taurus .38 Special. Officers later found a suspected bullet hole in the ground near where Keeley said she fired at Reid.
Keeley told officers “she was tired of him and tired of living in fear of him.”
Officers chased Reid as he ran behind Bernard’s Funeral Home on Ward Road. Reid was located in the parking lot of Madison Flooring by Corp. Andy Koth, Madison Police Department and Deputy Lee Kitchens, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. Reports state that Reid allegedly kept a hand in his waistband as officers were attempting to place handcuffs on the suspect. Officer Tyler Finch also arrived and, reports state, noticed that Reid had also been tased. “Mr. Reid continued to actively resist,” reports state.
Officer Finch used his taser weapon against Reid and, reports state, at one point Reid took the taser weapon from Finch. Reid was eventually subdued, handcuffed and arrested. He was charged with aggravated stalking, disarming a police officer, terroristic threats and three counts of felony obstruction.
