An arrest at a safety check point at the intersection of Fairlay Road and Sandy Creek Road yielded a host of suspected narcotics.

According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office were conducting the check point at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24, when a white 2016 Kia Optima driven by 18-year-old Levi Mahlon Brown, of Madison, pulled toward the intersection but stopped.

Reports state that deputies waved the vehicle forward with flash lights and when Brown eventually arrived at the check point a deputy noted the strong scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The deputy also stated in a report that he allegedly observed a generic oxycodone or oxycontin pill sitting on the center console of the Kia. Brown was removed from the vehicle and a search of the vehicle found two bags of suspected methamphetamine in the driver’s side door compartment, a bag of suspected methamphetamine in a backpack in the rear floor board of the vehicle, three suspected adderall pills in the center console of the vehicle and suspected marijuana in the driver side front floor board of the vehicle.

Reports state that deputies also located two vape cartridges in the passenger seat that contained suspected liquid THC. Deputies also located $4,002 in U.S. currency in the vehicle in the center console and in a cup holder of the vehicle. The cash was wrapped in black rubber bands and was “predominantly in $20” bills.

Deputies also seized Brown’s cell phone and, reports state, were going to seek a search warrant for the phone. Brown was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a schedule one drug.
