On Jan. 15, an abandoned vehicle report was filed at a Georgia Highway 83 near Sandy Creek Road location. According to reports, a deputy was dispatched to a 2003 Mazda MPV abandoned in the north bound lane. The vehicle, reports state, had major front end damage. The vehicle’s driver was located outside the Country Store convenience store in an “altered mental status.” He refused all medical attention offered. Reports state that a deputy was able to surmise that the driver had struck a tree on a property on Burney Street in Madison.
On Jan. 12, a fraud complaint was filed at a Fears Road residence. According to reports, a woman said she had received a debt collections letter in the mail alleging that she owed DirectTV $833.36. The woman said service was supposedly for a residence in Birmingham, Ala., and ran from May 8, 2021 to Aug. 19, 2021. The woman said she has never had an account with DirectTV.
On Jan. 12, a carrying weapons within school safety zones, theft by taking and theft by receiving complaints were filed at Morgan County High School, College Drive. According to reports, a deputy responded to a student’s complaint that someone had taken her Apple AirPods. Reports state that a deputy and school administrators were able to identify a 16-year-old male had taken the AirPods. the male was confronted and allegedly admitted to taking the AirPods and stated that he had given the AirPods to a 15-year-old male. The 15-year-old male was taken from class and, reports state, told administrators that he had been given the AirPods and was told to “hold them.” He also told administrators and a deputy that he had a folding pocket knife in his bag and a fixed blade hunting knife in his bag. Both knives were secured. The 16-year-old is being charged with theft by taking. The 15-year-old is being charged with theft by receiving and possession of a weapon in a school safety zone.
On Jan. 12, a failure to report an accident report was filed near the intersection of Morris Road and Woodkraft Road. According to reports, a man said a woman in a white SUV clipped the front of his 2012 Chrysler 300 sedan. The man said the woman exited her vehicle and provided him with a phone number and also said she was not licensed and had no insurance. She then, reports state, got back into her vehicle and drove away. The man was examined at the scene by medical technicians and was transported to Morgan Medical Center. The man’s vehicle was noticeably damaged with fluids leaking from the motor, reports state. A deputy attempted to call the number given to the man but no one answered. Another deputy, the following day, was able to use the name the woman gave the man and phone number to locate the suspect woman. Reports state that the woman’s license has been suspended three times for various violations. The woman did answer the deputy’s call, reports state, and then told the deputy that she had a bad cell phone signal and hung up the phone. The woman then began texting the deputy and, reports state, said that her mother had advised her that police were seeking her to discuss a hit and run. The deputy requested that the woman meet with him to discuss the allegation and she refused, stating that she had sold that vehicle three months ago. She then disconnected the phone call. Warrants for the woman’s arrest will be taken, reports state.
On Jan. 12, a 15-year-old student at Morgan County Middle School was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon within a school safety zone and was detained and transported to Wilkes Regional Youth Detention Center. According to reports, the student allegedly possessed a Glock look-alike air soft pistol in his bag and was displaying it to other students while on an extra curricular bus. Reports state the student had removed a red plastic warning device that signified the weapon was not real from the pistol. The pistol was located and the student was detained.
On Jan. 12, a harassment complaint was filed at an Eatonton Road residence. According to reports, a woman said her husband has been followed by road workers on the U.S. 441 expansion project. The husband told a deputy that the workers would hold his vehicle up in traffic and speak on a hand mike to someone while they had him stopped. He also alleged that the workers would take a back road and meet him at his destination before he arrived. He also said he has been in verbal altercations with the mailman, another person who locates underground services and that there is someone in a vacant two story house across the road that whistles at night. The man said the offenders cease the behavior when he calls the sheriff’s office.
On Jan. 11, an abandoned vehicle complaint was filed at the intersection of Bethany Road and Creek Point Drive. According to reports, a deputy noted that at 6:15 a.m. he responded to a report of a 2005 Nissan partially in in the southbound lane. The deputy located the name of the registered owner but could not locate the owner. The vehicle was towed.
On Jan. 11, a theft by taking complaint was filed at a Sandy Creek Road residence. According to reports, a man said he was missing a white Ford F-350 Super Duty truck. The man said he had been storing the vehicle at his mother’s residence and had owned it out right for about four months. The man said the last time he had observed the vehicle was Dec. 26, 2022.
On Jan. 11, a simple battery and criminal trespass complaint was filed at a West Main Street, Rutledge, residence. According to reports, a deputy was called to the residence at 9 p.m. regarding a subject who refused to leave. No other information was available regarding the incident.
On Jan. 9, a dispute complaint was filed at a Riverwalk Road residence. According to reports, a woman said that when she was waiting in a church parking lot to exchange custody, the woman’s ex-husband allegedly pulled into the parking lot at a “high rate of speed” and exited his vehicle “yelling at the top of his lungs” regarding the woman taking the couple’s child to Florida. The woman said she was not aware that she could not take the child on a trip to Florida and alleged that her ex-husband had taken the child to Kansas.
On Jan. 9, a criminal trespass complaint was filed at a Pinetree Circle residence. According to reports, a man alleged that he and his daughters at 4:35 p.m. heard something strike a window on the residence. The man alleged that several neighborhood young men were standing in the street. A deputy noted that one pane of double pane glass was broken. The deputy observed some young men standing on the street and took the juveniles home and spoke with their mother regarding the complainant’s allegations. The mother allegedly told the deputy that the complainant was “constantly accusing” her children of damaging his property.
On Jan. 9, a fraud complaint was filed at a Godfrey Road residence. According to reports, a woman alleged that someone had cashed a check from her account for $950. The woman said the check was cashed in Loganville and that she had never written a check to anyone for $950.
