A dispute on Hayes Street led to a man getting stabbed during a physical confrontation.
According to Chief Deputy Keith Howard, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 51-year-old Gary Robbins near the Madison Town Homes while Robbins was sitting inside his GMC truck at approximately 10 p.m. on May 31. Howard said Robbins was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly stabbed Greg Dale Binion, Jr., 27, Madison, after a dispute on Hayes Street.
According to Madison Police Department reports, a Madison Police Officer responded to a report of a stabbing and found Binion, Jr., sitting inside his Dodge Journey while parked on Wellington Street. Binion told the officer he had been stabbed in the back and the officer began first aid while waiting for EMS to arrive. After EMS arrived, Binion was transported to Morgan Medical Center, Howard said.
Howard said Robbins alleged that he was sitting in his vehicle in the cul de sac of Hayes Street talking to a friend when Binion allegedly approached him. Robbins told deputies, Howard said, that words were exchanged and then Robbins alleged that Binion attempted to run over him and struck him in the knee with the Dodge Journey.
Robbins allegedly told deputies that an altercation ensued and he stabbed Binion. Reports state the incident began at 9 p.m. A relative of Binion’s followed Robbins and reported his location to authorities after the altercation.
Howard said an investigation into the stabbing was ongoing and more charges may be forthcoming.
“It’s an active investigation to determine all facets of the incident, including what initiated the altercation. Further charges could be pending,” Howard said.
