Unwanted sexual advances, or at least the perception of sexual advances, left a man bloody and dazed after being pistol whipped by another man at a Meadow Ridge Drive residence.
According to Madison Police Department reports, Roy Coates, 58, Madison, was arrested on Tuesday, May 18, and charged with aggravated assault at approximately 6 p.m. outside his Meadow Ridge Drive home after a man called police and told them they had observed a man fall in Coates’ front yard.
Reports state that when an officer arrived he observed a man sitting on the curb in front of Coates residence “with extreme injuries to his face.” The officer said the man was bleeding from several cuts and bleeding from his nose. He was “conscious, slightly delirious, but was able to state that he was beaten with a gun…” reports state.
Coates told the officer that he and the man had been drinking in the residence when the man allegedly “grabbed him in a sexual manner…” Coates said he then asked the man to leave his residence but the man refused and allegedly “attempted to wrap his arms around him…”
Coates said both men then exchanged blows until Coates grabbed his unloaded Taurus Millennium pistol and used it to beat the man in the head. The man left the residence and collapsed in the lawn outside the residence.
The unloaded pistol was taken into evidence and Coates was transported to the Morgan County Detention Center.
