On Oct. 26, a financial transaction card fraud complaint was filed at a Penor Street residence. According to reports, a woman said someone used her Rapid Debit Card to transfer money into a Cash App. The woman said the debit card is used by her employer to pay employees. She said the card showed 10 unauthorized debits totaling $582.11. She said she had dinner with a woman in Athens prior to the unauthorized debits occurring but she does not know the woman’s last name.
On Nov. 13, an information report was filed at Plainview Storage, Eatonton Road. According to reports, a woman alleged that someone had entered her rented unit and rifled through her belongings. An officer noted that some items may have fallen off a stack but nothing appeared out of order. No broken items were observed, he said. He advised the woman to complete an inventory of her items to determine if anything had been stolen.
On Nov. 10, Janice Peek, 56, Greensboro, was arrested and charged with shoplifting. According to reports, Peek allegedly “skip scanned” a $12 belt while checking out at Walmart, Eatonton Road. A Walmart employee provided an officer with video of Peek allegedly attempting to take the belt.
On Nov. 17, a fraud complaint was filed at an East Jefferson Street residence. According to reports, a man said he had received a bill from Verizon wireless alleging that he owed $299.01 for four phone lines. The man said he was not a Verizon customer.
