A Morgan County man was killed in a head-on collision in Oconee County last week.
According to Georgia State Patrol reports, Jeffrie Rivers, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 441. Reports state that Rivers was a passenger in a 1998 Ford Ranger driven by Carnell Porter, 64, Madison, who allegedly entered the southbound lane of U.S. 441 while traveling northbound.
The front of a 2015 Honda CR-V driven by Sidney Luke, 72, Elberton, struck the front passenger side of the Ranger driven by Porter. The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6.
Reports state that both vehicles sustained fire damage in the crash and both came to an uncontrolled rest off the highway.
The Ranger’s driver, Porter, along with the Honda’s driver, Luke, and passenger, 69-year-old Kathy Luke, were all transferred to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with “non-life threatening injuries.”
According to SFC Tim Meyer, Georgia State Patrol, authorities are “investigating if impairment was a factor which caused the driver the Ford Ranger, Mr. Carnell Porter, to lose control of his vehicle.”
