A half naked man was arrested and charged with obstruction after he allegedly shoplifted from Pilot Truck Stop, Eatonton Road.

According to Madison Police Department reports, Jack Peter Sides, of Foley, Ala., was taken to the ground and resisted officers’ attempts to handcuff him after officers were called to the truck stop in relation to a shoplifting allegation.

Reports state when officers arrived at 5:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, they located Sides near a white Ford truck parked partly on a curb at the back of the store. When an officer arrived, he said he observed the truck and Sides near the truck.

Sides, reports state, was beginning to take his clothes off and had his shoes and pants off when officers arrived. He then turned toward his vehicle and starting reaching when officers started to grab his hands and tried to place him in handcuffs. He allegedly resisted and was taken to the ground.

An employee at the store said that Sides had taken two packs of Pall Mall cigarettes, two packs of L&M cigarettes, three cans of Mountain Dew, one bag of Chex Mix, one jumbo bag of teriyaki beef jerky, a half gallon of milk and a 28 count case of water. The items totaled $55.21.

The employee said that after he rang up the items and told Sides the cost, Sides said, “Dan Houseman is going to pay for it.” The employee said he didn’t understand what that meant. To clarify, Sides allegedly said, “Dan Houseman is going to pay for it dumb (expletive).”

Sides then scraped everything off the counter and exited the back doors of the Pilot Truck Stop.

He was transported to the Morgan County Detention Center with no pants and shoes and was turned over to the detention center staff.
