It took two attempts at using tire deflating stop sticks to slow a woman down enough for deputies to execute a P.I.T maneuver on her F-250 pickup truck to stop a dangerous multi-mile high speed pursuit.
Marguerite Elizabeth Crumbley, 42, Greensboro, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. on West Marion Street in Eatonton after a chase that began on Interstate 20 in Morgan County, ended in Putnam County. Crumbley’s pickup truck was spun out by Morgan County Deputy Derek Snead after three of the truck’s tires had been destroyed by stop sticks deployed by the Eatonton Police Department on Georgia Highway 16 coming into Eatonton.
Jasper County authorities had attempted to destroy the truck’s tires in Shady Dale during the chase but Crumbley had evaded those attempts.
According to a report filed by Deputy Blake Rowe, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan County Dispatch was called by at least three people reporting that the the F-250, driving eastbound on Interstate 20, had allegedly forced at least 12 vehicles off the interstate and was running with its emergency lights flashing.
Morgan County deputies attempted to stop the F-250 on the interstate, but eventually, the truck took exit 113 on Monticello Highway. The truck, reports state, stopped briefly at the top of the exit ramp while deputies with emergency lights and sirens blaring tried making a traffic stop.
The truck then, reports state, accelerated south on Monticello Highway and then accelerated, to speeds of more than 100 mph, reports state. The truck also passed several motorists on stretches of road with a solid center line.
After the truck struck the stop sticks outside of Eatonton, three of the vehicle’s tires deflated and, reports state, the “rubber on her tires was burning.” Deputy Snead received permission to stop the truck with the P.I.T. maneuver as Crumbley was approaching Eatonton’s city center.
Reports state Crumbley refused to exit the vehicle and officers had to strike the driver’s side window with a baton. The window failed to shatter because of window tint, reports state, and eventually Crumbley unlocked the door.
She grasped the steering wheel as officers attempted to get her out of the vehicle. A deputy threatened to use a taser weapon and Crumbley was taken from the vehicle, reports state.
Deputies allegedly found six partially empty Fireball whiskey bottles in the vehicle, two full Fireball whiskey bottles (travel size) and two bottles of Jamaican Me Happy Seagrams in the vehicle.
After Crumbley was read her Miranda Rights, reports state, and was asked for a blood sample, she allegedly told a deputy “no, go (expletive) yourself.”
She is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to stop at stop sign, DUI and obstruction.
