railroad intersection

This rail crossing turned tragic Tuesday after a man crashed his truck onto the rails and then was struck by a train.

A Buckhead man died tragically after the truck he was driving first overturned at a railroad crossing and then was struck by a train.

Daniel Hall, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical workers on Tuesday, May 11, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class R. L. Clark.

Clark said Hall was driving a Toyota Tacoma truck toward the railroad crossing on Blue Springs Road near Swords Trail when the truck left the roadway. Clark said authorities believe Hall overcorrected in an attempt to regain the roadway and when he did, the truck rotated toward the left side of the road and one of the front tires struck a rail tie. Clark said the truck then overturned and came to rest on its tires on the railroad track.

With a freight train approaching, the rail crossing arms dropped and the truck was then struck by the train.

The force of the collision caused the truck to overturn a second time, this time coming to rest on its roof after leaving the rail tracks. When the train struck the truck, Hall was ejected from the vehicle. The incident occurred at approximately noon, Clark said. the railroad crossing is located almost directly behind the Sandhu Convenience Store.
