An array of classic cars, motorcycles and other flashy vehicles are slated to line the streets of Downtown Madison this Sunday, Sept. 19 to help the county’s furry friends housed at the Humane Society of Morgan County (HSMC).

The 4th Annual Pistons for Paws is the premier Fall fundraiser for the HSMC, bringing in donations to fund the non-profit, no-kill shelter that relies solely on generosity of donors and volunteers.

This year, the Pistons for Paws Charity Car & Motorcycle Parade & Show will ride through Downtown Madison. A variety of classic and spiffy vehicles will be featured in this family-friendly event to benefit the humane society and the thousands of homeless animals they help throughout the year.

“This is such an important event,” said Beth Bradley, a volunteer for the Humane Society who is orchestrating the event. “We are a no-kill shelter that runs strictly on donations and grants. This is a fundraiser to help raise money to take care of the animals while we are finding them a forever home.”

The event is free for the attending public. Funds will be raised through registration fees for those who want to participate in the car and motorcycle show. The registration fee is $20, plus one donation item. Donations items requested include: liquid laundry detergent, bleach, Purina Dry Puppy Food, Purina Dry Kitten Chow, Dawn Dish Detergent, or a Walmart $5.00 Gift Card. Bradley is hoping to recruit 100 cars/motorcycles for the event.

“That’s our goal,” said Bradley. “All the proceeds will be used to run the center, care for the animals, purchase supplies and fund the free services offered to the public.”

The parade will take off from Walmart in Madison and march through downtown Main Street before ending on East and West Jefferson Street. Featured vehicles will also be parked along Jefferson Street for the show. Line-up for the parade begins at 11 a.m. The parade gets rolling at 12 p.m. Hotdogs and hamburger plates will be for sale at the event.

Trophies will be given to People’s Choice and other Categories and will be awarded at 2 p.m.

“We are asking people to like our Facebook page where you can find live videos to keep up with what we are doing at the center,” said Bradley.

Bradley specifically thanked the event’s main sponsor Countryside Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Madison, who is lending out some of their vehicles for the show.

“We are all working together to give these animals a better life,” said Bradley. “That’s all we want and that’s why we do this work.”
