The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center is hosting a wedding-themed night of food, drinks and dancing on Oct. 21. The Wedding Crashers Fundraiser will raise funds to support programming and also provide couples who had to postpone or cancel their reception in 2020/21 an opportunity to celebrate with their friends and members of the community by dancing the night away to a well-known party band, Atlanta Rhythm and Groove band.
According to Time Magazine, last year approximately 1 million couples in the U.S. postponed their wedding, canceled them all together or had a legal ceremony and delayed the reception. As vaccines are available and restrictions on large gatherings loosen, the Cultural Center wanted to give not only wedding parties and their families a night to celebrate, but all supporters of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.
The Wedding Crashers Fundraiser will be held in MMCC’s Hall on Foster Street. Heavy hor d’oeuvres, an open beer, wine and champagne bar, and live music by the premiere wedding band, Atlanta Rhythm and Groove, will all be included in the ticket price, and in keeping with the theme, the Center will even serve slices of wedding cake.
Cocktail/wedding attire is suggested, however this is a fun opportunity to wear an old bridesmaid dress, wedding gown or a bow tie, if you desire. A large custom-made balloon arch will provide a backdrop for a memorable photo opportunity.
"This is the wedding reception you didn’t get to have, attend, or get invited to, but everyone, whether you are part of a canceled, re-scheduled, or pared-down wedding or not, is invited to come out and dance to a great band that will play all your favorite dancing music," said a statement by the Cultural Center.
The Center thanked its members, Anne and Robert Trulock and the Wedding Crashers Host Committee. The Trulocks generously donated their postponed booking of the Atlanta Rhythm and Groove Band. The Host Committee provided a match to Anne’s donation, which ensures that each ticket sold will go directly to benefit the Center. This band is “one of the South’s most popular bands” featuring big band music, classic soul, funk, smooth R&B, and even hip hop.
This unique fundraising event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 21, at the Hall on Foster Street, behind the Cultural Center. Tickets are $100 per person and include heavy hor d’oeuvres, dessert, open beer, wine, & champagne bar, and dancing to live music by Atlanta Rhythm & Groove. Tickets are available at MMCC-ARTS.ORG or by calling the Center at 706-342-4743.
