Christi Grace recently opened Thermography Imaging of North Georgia, located at 1550 Eatonton Highway.

A new adjunct screening method for various cancers, nerve disorders and other diseases has opened in Madison.

According to Thermography Imaging of North Georgia, LLC owner Christi Grace, the new, non-radiation thermography imaging the company is providing at its office at 1550 Eatonton Highway provides an additional method for disease screening. However, she says, the technology’s biggest use is detecting breast cancer.

According to the company’s website, the technology “can detect the markers for breast cancer up to 10 years in advance of mammograms in 70 percent of patients.”

Grace says the technology has existed since 1982 when it was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration as “an adjunct screening method for detecting breast cancer” but in the last few years imaging and results have accelerated with innovation.

“In the last 10 years the equipment has become high-definition,” says Grace. “The technology has grown tremendously.”

“The imaging cameras detect heat patterns and changes on the skin surface associated with physiological changes in the body,” the company’s website says. “Cancer cells in their earliest stage produce new blood vessels that are used to ‘feed’ the tumor. This blood flow in turn produces patterns of temperature changes that are abnormal.”

Grace says the imaging process is “painless and non-contact” and is considered as an additional method of cancer and disease screening. “It gives you an tremendous advantage in detecting early cancer,” she says.
