“We have never had anything like this before in Madison,” said City Manager David Nunn at the grand opening of Groove Addicts Music Company in downtown Madison Tuesday morning.

Madison’s first-ever music store, Groove Addicts Music Company, is open for business on West Washington Street, owned and operated by a father and step-son duo, Ronnie Pittman and Buddy Scroggs.

“We are excited you have chosen Madison and we will support you 100 percent,” said Madison Mayor Fred Perriman during the grand opening.

Groove Addicts Music Company offers a variety of musical instruments, equipment, and services. Pittman, a retired country and pop musician who moved to Georgia two years ago from Nashville, TN, still plays music locally and hopes his experience as a recording artist and songwriter will be an asset to the patrons frequenting the new music shop.

“We sell a variety of musical instruments, offer repairs, and will be offering guitar lessons, drum lessons, bass lessons and piano lessons,” said Pittman. “We are even hoping to offer voice lessons.

“This this town has a lot of musicians in it and people are tired of going all the way up to Athens to find a music store,” said Scroggs. “Madison has welcomed us with open arms.”

This is the second Groove Addicts shop to open. The first one opened in Milledgeville a year ago. Pittman decided to open the second shop in Madison after becoming familiar with the area when he moved to Putnam County. Pittman also owns the Car Bliss dealership in Madison across from Ingles.

“We really like this area,” said Pittman. “We thought Madison would be the perfect place to open up a second music shop. Now that our Madison shop is open, we are the only music store between here and Athens, Macon, and Conyers.”

Pittman and Scroggs hope to be more than just a store, but a place where blossoming musicians can come to learn and experiment.

“We are trying to do something different here. We want to share our musical experience with the community and especially with the kids,” said Pittman. “It will be a great experience to share it with all the youngsters and give them something to do that keeps them out of trouble,” laughed Pittman. “We are ready to serve the community and be a big part of life here. We want to help the community here and further the community in musical instruction and give the kids some diversity in activities.”

“Music has been my passion since I was little,” said Scroggs. “I want to share that with this community.”

Groove Addicts is located at 202 West Washington Street in Madison. The shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays, open Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We hope people will come check us out and get to know us,” said Pittman.
