Surrounded by a red sea of Morgan County fans, the Hoop Dogs departed their locker room just after 5 p.m. last Saturday, March 8, at the Macon Coliseum with one thing on their minds: the fight for the state championship.
Once out on the court, they proved before the entire state of Georgia that Morgan County’s team is, undeniably, the single greatest force in AAA basketball this year.
Morgan County’s staggering 69-45 victory over the Buford Wolves left no room for any doubt. When the dust settles and the tapes are analyzed, no one will dare to claim that any single slip-up or questionable call gave Morgan County a title that they do not rightfully own.
The Dogs simply dominated the final round of the state playoffs. There may already be talk of next year, when the unrelenting cycle of high school sports has pushed the athletes up another rung, but, when all else is said and done, one fact stands high above the others. They are champions.
