OK so there’s a crazy Scarecrow contest in Rutledge for students (16 and under) and adults! Prizes are $25 for Best Student Entry; $25 for Best Adult Entry and $25 for Best in Show! Wow! Pick up your entry form in Rutledge at any shop or restaurant and turn in your entry by Oct. 1 to LilyBeth’s located in downtown Rutledge!

Janet Schultz and her daughter Ali Knox are opening Charcoal Lane, an interiors shop in downtown Madison in the old Baldwin Drug space next to Bella Madison and right next to Lee’s Fashions! Anyhow, Ali is an interior designer who also has retail experience! She was a sales manager at Crate and Barrel in Lenox, so, honey, she knows her stuff! Anyhow, this cool new mother-daughter shop is gonna have all kinds for great stuff for the home! The front part of the shop will have all sorts of home interior merchandise like furniture, lamps, art, mirrors, accessories, rugs, table linens and more! You’ll even be able to buy custom pillows and the really best part is that you’ll be able to buy custom dog beds! But that ain’t all! They’re also gonna have a small line of jewelry by a designer in Atlanta! The back part of the shop will serve as the interior design consulting area!

OK, so Janet says they’re shootin’ to open by mid-October! I flat cannot wait!

Too cool for school! Honey I’m talkin’ all ‘bout Georgia Military College! If y’all haven’t seen their brand new location in the old Citizen building at 235 South Main Street in downtown Madison, you need to run over there quick and check it out! The new space is flat beautiful! I love it! Anyhow, Georgia Military College is a two-year college that offers Associate’s degrees in business administration, criminal justice, education, general studies, history, information technology, paralegal, pre-nursing psychology, sociology and social work. The tuition is affordable plus you get the benefit of small class sizes! So what are y’all waitin’ on? Get to school y’all!

Ding dang! I flat can’t keep up with Keith Rex! He’s at it again y’all! Keith’s done got the lease on the Destination Antiques space located at 176 West Jefferson Street, in downtown Madison, right down from In High Cotton. He’s openin’ up The Junque Korner real soon y’all! You can get a booth for a great price, so if you’re interested give ‘em a call at 706-342-3009! Oh and keep watchin’ this space for the openin’ date!

Hey y’all! Retro Cinema at Ricky D’s is lookin’ fabulous and they are still on schedule to open late October or early November. In the meantime, y’all need to check out their Facebook page and participate in their weekly trivia contests and win a cool prize like a T-shirt or other fun prize! Y’all check it out today! Don’t forget this year’s Chili Cook-Off is slated for Saturday, Oct. 5 in Town Park from 11 a.m. ‘til 4 p.m.! Tasting wristbands are on sale at noon and the chili tasting is from 12:30 ‘til 3 p.m. or until the chili runs out! Get there early to taste y’all! Oh and this year there’s gonna be the Harvest Marketplace with amazing fall plants, fresh produce, the Krystal Chili Pup contest, cornbread contest and arts and crafts! And, don’t forget live music!
