writer Stating that “I find it necessary to publicly state my position on the race to fill the District 112 State House seat”, State Representative Doug Holt clarified his stance on the contest. “It has been my intent to leave the decision of selecting a new representative up to the people of Morgan and Newton counties entirely. However, I continue to be contacted by people wishing to verify candidate claims about my support. Thus I think it is appropriate to clear the air.” “I do not officially support, endorse, back or promote any candidate.
I am not a member of any candidate’s campaign team in any capacity, and am not doing any campaign work or fundraising for anyone. As to my relationship with the Republican candidates, I know two of them, and am close friends with the other.” He concluded by saying “Of course, like every other voter, I have my opinions about the race, and, when personally asked as I’ve encountered folks face-to-face, have been honest in those opinions.
That said, I’ve had my time in office, which has been a great honor and privilege. I now believe the most appropriate thing for me to do is step back, and encourage voters to get to know the candidates on their own terms. Visit their websites, attend public forums and speaking engagements, call or speak with them directly, and make your decision accordingly. This is a great district with terrific people. I ask everyone to please stay engaged and please vote.”
