Hugh Eden Hensley

Hugh Eden Hensley Jr., 70, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at Madison Health and Rehab in Madison. He lost a long difficult battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

He graduated from Murphy High School in 1961, served in the United States Army and attended Western Carolina University.

His career in construction and heavy equipment lead to jobs at Georgia Pacific, Bechtel Construction and Eagle Excavation. He also traveled abroad for business.

Mr. Hensley was well respected in the construction industry.

He was an extremely hard worker and provided for his family. He was always the “go to” guy for the entire family. He had a very generous side, helping people along the way and never expecting anything in return.

Mr. Hensley was a native of Murphy, North Carolina, born on June 19, 1943.

He had also lived in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Cullowhee, North Carolina and Marietta. His last home was in Rutledge.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Hugh E. Hensley Sr. and Virginia Kate Hensley, both of Murphy, North Carolina, his brother Terrance Hensley, Carolina Beach, North Caroline and his wife, Susan Hensley of Rutledge. Surviving are his children Bradford Hugh Hensley, Beth Hensley Lindgren (Brent) and Kristal Hensley Huff; grandchildren Taylor, Breanna, Branson and Carter; his brother Herbert “Chux” Hensley (April) of Palm Bay, Florida; a sister Nancy Hensley Burke (David) of Charleston, South Carolina; two nephews Buck Burke of Charleston, South Carolina and Mike Barcell (Valerie) of Unicoi, Tennessee.

He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

A memorial service was held at A. E. Carter Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 27. A. E. Carter Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
