Hollis Leon Compton of Buckhead passed away on November 20, 2013. He was born on May 31, 1923 in Knoxville, Tenn. His parents were Della Turner and John Compton. He served in the Army in the Korean War and World War II. He was a pioneer in the convenience food and gas store industry. He owned Minit Chek Food Stores, Inc. In his business and personal life you always knew where you stood with him. He would fight you over a penny and then loan you a dollar to pay him back! He retired to the Lake Oconee area where he enjoyed the lake life and the outdoors. He hosted an annual Dove Shoot, which always brought old and new friends together. Mr. Compton was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Clabough Compton and his daughter Holly Compton Penney. He is survived by his daughter Cathy Savolt and her husband John, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by family friend and longtime caregiver Catherine Williams. The family received friends Saturday, Nov. 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. A. E. Carter Funeral Home had care of arrangements.
