Pecola Hawkins, 91, of Madison died December 26, 2013. She was born August 10, 1922 in Madison to Cora Ponder. She graduated from Madison High School on May 23,1939. She remained in Madison and performed domestic work for many families. She was a pillar in her community and cared for many neighbors and friends with her love and support. She loved to bake cakes and coolies and spend time outdoors in her garden. Mrs. Hawkins was receded in death by her mother Cora Ponder and children Jacquelyn Wooten, Andrew Hawkins and Richard Maurice Hawkins. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hutchins of Atlanta and Eleanor Nash of Madison; nine grandchildren, Edward Hutchins (Gloria), Demetria Brewer (Alonzo), Al Hutchins (Vanesia), Anwar Nasir (Tylisha), Layer Nasir Desarai Wooten, Yashlyn Roberson (Elliott), Ricardo Hawkins (Karenda) and Alvin Hudson; and 24 great grandchildren. The family received friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery. Rev. W. J. Reid officiated. A.E. Carter Funeral Home had care of arrangements.
