Elizabeth Martin, 96 of Venice, Florida and former long-time Madison resident passed away peacefully December 28, 2013. She was born in Maxeys on August 23, 1917, the eldest daughter of the late Edward and Emmie Thaxton. Also pre-deceasing her were her husband of 59 years, Robert Martin and her daughter Robbie Martin Sewell.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Julie and Cade Gervais, son-in-law Andrew Sewell; grandsons Jay Sewell (Jessica), Christopher Sewell (Heather); granddaughters Eileen Stone (David), Yvonne Hanner (Michael) and Nathalie Miller (Damian); siblings Douglas Thaxton, Doris Athan and Julia Cannon and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, friends and caretakers.

She was a faithful member of Madison Baptist Church and the Joan Carter Circle and she also taught 3-year-olds in Sunday school for many years.

She worked as office manager for the Housing Authority in Madison, was a wonderful cook and seamstress and loved to read.

Services are Thursday, January 2, 2014 at A. E. Carter Funeral Home, Madison with visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. with burial at Madison City Cemetery. Flowers may be delivered to Carter Funeral Home or a donation may be made in her name to Madison Baptist Church. Arrangements by A. E.
