On May 10th and 11th, the Sunflower Farm, famous for the annual Sunflower Festival, will be hosting a two-day Mommies and Poppies Festival celebrating Mothers and Nature. The farm is located at 1430 Durden Road, Rutledge GA 30663. The festival will be from 9:30 a.m.to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10th and from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Mothers Day, May 11th. What a wonderful way to get everyone outdoors to enjoy the beautiful spring weather we are blessed with in the RTL. You are invited to bring Mom out to celebrate her day! Stroll about the grounds surrounded by beautiful wildflowers and, of course, as the Mamas and Papas sang California Dreaming Poppies.
Enjoy all varieties, shapes, sizes, and colors as well as mixtures of peonies and wildflowers. There will be an art exhibit in the 1891 Sharecroppers Market. A wonderful outdoor market will feature arts and crafts, plants, and other garden related treasures. Gardening experts will be speaking throughout each day. Learn from Stephanie Hudak about potting plants. Crystal Scott will be speaking on local plants, and Rena Holt will share her knowledge about wildflowers. Antiques and collectables will be for sale in the antique barn. Tour the vintage 1811 farmhouse and gardens. The kids will enjoy romping through the Enchanted Forest, the brand new barnyard, and ¼ mile spiral labyrinth, also called a maze, cut from the middle of a wheat field.
In remembrance of beloved Mothers who have passed on, bring a favorite photo to place on the Motherboard Memorial. No one, including Moms, will have to worry about cooking. Delicious local fare will be available. Great music will be flowing throughout the grounds as April Allen and other local artists will provide entertainment. Admission for Mommies and Poppies is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 4 to 12 years old. All kids under 4 are FREE. The Sunflower Farm is a great location for weddings and rehearsal dinners, corporate picnics and outdoor meetings, church outings, educational fieldtrips and more. And in keeping with the Mamas and Papas…this festival is Saturday and Sunday, not Monday, Monday and it is Dedicated to the one I love… Mama!
