Weather issues have postponed the beginning of the Morgan County Middle School (MCMS) tennis team’s season until this past Thursday, March 13, when they were able to take on Buford City on the road. The MCMS girls beat Buford’s girls 3-2 in the match, with Caroline Rittenhouse taking MCMS’ sole singles win. The teams of Madison Gasque and Callie Arienza and then Mariella Plumley and Lilly Courchaine winning their respective matches.

“I am very proud of our girls winning overall 3-2 for the second year in a row against Buford in some very well played matches,” said MCMS Tennis Coach Sloan Gill. Unfortunately, the MCMS boys lost their first games of the year 0-5 against Buford.

“We have two returning boys this season and the rest are going to only get better throughout the season,” said Coach Gill. “Even thought they didn’t win, their level of play was great. I am very proud of our boys’ team for their hard work in building their skills to challenge these tougher opponents.” On Tuesday, March 18, the MCMS tennis team played Athens Academy at home, and will play Jefferson City next Monday, March 24, on the road.
