The Morgan County Middle School (MCMS) wrestling team took on George Walton Academy and Athens Christian School last Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Morgan County High School gym.

The MCMS Mat Dogs beat George Walton by a score of 65-19 for their first dual of the day, and they were able to keep their winning streak going against Athens Christian by beating them 66-25. After racking up the two wins last week, the MCMS wrestling team is now 4-0 in league matches this season.

“Overall, the team did well,” said MCMS Wrestling Coach Mark Roper. “Once again, we had some great wrestling to secure the win.” Garner Drummond, Jacob Peters, Caleb Knight, and Zack Smith earned wins against George Walton by pinning their opponent in their respective weight classes.

The MCMS Mat Dogs also earned an overpowering victory over Athens Christian, with Donovan McElligott, Kevin Berisko, Drummond, Peters, Smith, Michael Stephens, and Curry Wadsworth pinning their second opponents of the day. Morgan County traveled to Ola High School on Saturday, Dec. 7, for the Pin Down Cancer wrestling tournament, where they competed against more than 20 schools.

Coach Roper expected the team to “gain some valuable experience that will help us with league matches and get us ready for the end of year tournaments in January” at the tournament. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the MCMS Dogs hosted home duals against Social Circle and Jasper County. Today, Dec. 12, the team will travel to Milledgeville to compete against Georgia Military Academy.
