The Morgan County High School wrestling team traveled to Madison County last Tuesday, Nov. 26, to face the Madison County Red Raiders in a team dual.

The Mat Dogs came out ahead of Madison County 60-18.

Among the varsity winners were Sean McElligott (120 lb.), Chris Bazemore (126 lb.), Jody McAlister (138 lb.), Luke Mitchell (145 lb.), Jeremy Worth (182 lb.), and John Grubbs (195 lb.), who all won their varsity matches against Madison County by fall. Clayton Bearden (152 lb.) won his match in a 8-4 decision, and D’monta Wright (160 lb.) beat his opponent in a 4-2 decision as well. Jacob McAlister (132 lb.), Garrett Bone (220 lb.), and Zach Jenkins (heavyweight) won their respective matches by forfeit.

The JV Mat Dogs also competed against Madison County alongside the varsity team. Cody Lord won his match by a 15-7 decision, and Dalton Fulcher and Terrance Bailey both won their matches by fall. On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the varsity, JV, and Morgan County Middle School (MCMS) hosted Jackson County and Alcovy for the first home duals of the season.

This Saturday, Dec. 7, the varsity Mat Dogs will travel to Harrison High School in Kennesaw for the Hoya Invitational, while the JV Dogs will go to Lawrenceville for the Collins Hill JV Duals.

The varsity and JV teams will be back together in action next Tuesday for duals against Commerce, and then the Morgan County wrestling program will host the Morgan County Christmas Classic on Dec. 12 and 13 at the Morgan County High School gym.
