About 35 members of the Morgan County High School (MCHS) Class of 1983 celebrated their 30th reunion last Saturday.
According to Jeff Hood, one of the 1983 graduates, they had “a pretty good turnout.”
They had about 60 people in all, including graduates, spouses, and teachers.
Coach Steve Cisson, who was the girls’ basketball coach in ’83 as well as three members of that team – Thelma Brown, Cynthia Dennis, and Sylvia Wilson – were present.
Hood said they were recognized for being part of the state championship team: “They got a big ovation.”
Also in attendance were Coach Donald Harris and long-time MCHS assistant principal Lenion Bonhart.
One graduate, Scott Harris of Fort Worth, Texas, traveled the farthest to attend the reunion. They also had graduates from Raleigh, N.C., Panama City, Fla., and Charleston, S.C.
Those present had a picnic in Heritage Park on Saturday and enjoyed a get-together in the James Madison Conference Room that evening.
The event included food catered by Town 220, a DJ, dancing, a photographer, and a memorabilia table with articles from The Madisonian, yearbooks, and football gameday ribbons.
“We had a wonderful time,” he said. “Everybody’s said it went really well.”
So well that they have tentative plans to attend a football game this fall, he said.
This was only the class’ second reunion – the first was held in Athens to celebrate their 10th reunion.
