A 37–year–old man was killed Monday after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree off Nolan Store Road.

According to Georgia State Patrol reports, the man, who has yet to be identified pending notification of his next of kin, was driving a 1997 Honda Civic south on Nolan Store Road “in heavy rain” at approximately 10:30 a.m. when his vehicle failed to negotiate a curve south of Fairplay Road and struck the tree.

Sgt. Justin Howard, Georgia State Patrol, said the man is an undocumented, illegal alien and had no driver’s license but did have a Mexico identification card. Howard said an investigation revealed that the man had worked in the Morgan County area for the past 10 years.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports state that the man was wearing a seat belt and that an air bag deployed during the accident. No alcohol used was suspected in the incident.
