Last week marked Homecoming Week at Morgan County High School, and the week ended with Friday spent playing games (including the powderpuff football finals), going to a pep rally and then to a football game, where the Homecoming Court was celebrated at halftime. POW-derpuff Games: Sophomores shutout seniors 63-0 in final Homecoming game
By Nick Nunn, Staff Writer
What would homecoming be without a few rounds of powderpuff football?
Fortunately, Morgan County High School students didn’t have to find out last week, as powderpuff games between the grades played a big part of the afternoon activities on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, the grades held playoff games leading up to Friday’s championship game.
The first game saw the sophomores outplay the juniors 24-21. The seniors tied the freshmen 17-17, but, being the seniors, they got a pass on to the championship game, where they would face the sophomores.
For the final Thursday game, a consolation competition between the juniors and the freshmen, the juniors eeked out a 16-15 win over the freshmen.
Friday, the sophomores and the seniors were both pumped up to play in the final game of the powderpuff series, but, unfortunately for the seniors, the sophomores came a little bit more prepared, clobbering the seniors 63-0.
The sophomores exhibited a sophisticated passing game, scoring on their first drive, and, on the seniors’ first two drives, the sophomores intercepted passes to return them for touchdowns and give them an early 21-0 lead.
The sophomores would continue their domination with three more touchdown drives and three more interceptions returned for touchdowns to win 63-0.
Nevertheless, the seniors’ spirits appeared to be high as they made their way off of the field for the sophomores’ victory huddle.
