Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Frances S. Mathis, 77 of Jefferson, who passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013.

Mrs. Mathis was born in Madison a daughter of the late Roy and Desi Parr Stephens. She retired from Buhler Quality Yarn Company in Jefferson after 25 years of service, where she was a spinner. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Loyd Henry Mathis, her sons Timothy Mathis and Jerry Mathis and a brother Jack Stephens.

Survivors include her children, Jane Pace of Jefferson, Barbara Baxter of Nicholson, Ann Wise and Judy Childs, both of Jefferson, Kelly Parr of Maysville, Donna Dalton of Jefferson, Bobby Brown of Hull and Michael Brown of Winder; brothers and sisters, Grace Healey, Frank Stephens, Leila Folds, Inez Self, Sara Doster, Jimmy Stephens, Jane Laseter, Ruby Stewart and Gene Stephens, 27 grandchildren, 44 great-grand children and eight great-great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Palmer Pace officiating. Interment followed at Jackson Memorial Park with Alex Chambers, Keith Parr, Kegan Rice, Robert Stephens and Brandon Davis as pallbearers. The family received friends Thursday, July 4 at Evans Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
