By T. Adrienne Terrell
Greetings from The Springs! Let’s get things started by telling you about the fantastic Choir Extravaganza held on last Saturday night. Dr. Kathy Hubbard organized a great line up of the best solo and group talents around in this area. Bro. Anthony Williams of New Beginnings Baptist Church was the Master of Ceremony and he kept the program going as we enjoyed his choir along with The Madisonaires, Centennial Baptist Church Men and soloist, Sandra Bailey to name a few. What a great night or praise, worship and celebration!
With all of her God-given talent hopefully we will see Dr. Hubbard on the national scene one day. She ranks right up there with the very best. If you haven’t experienced her music ministry join us on any given Sunday and see for yourself!
Well, if you missed seeing Deacon James and Sister Lisa Green a couple weeks ago it was for a good reason. Lisa was the keynote speaker at Indian Creek Baptist Church for their Youth Day Program on Sunday, Sept. 29. The title of her message was, “Decisions” and her text came from Proverbs 4:7. I am sure that what she shared with the congregation at Indian Creek was well received.
The champs are here! The champs are here! During Wednesday’s Bible Study by a score of 70 to 55, the USBC women triumphed over the men in the battle testing our knowledge on the Ark of the Covenant. Pastor T promises that the next contest will be more challenging. Speaking for the ladies, I say bring it on!
Don’t forget that the Women’s Conference starts Friday night at 7 p.m. followed by two more sessions on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12 noon. This year’s theme is, “There is a Cry in the Spirit.” All ladies in the community are invited.
The sermon that Rev. Terrell preached Sunday was again life-changing. I know that I often state this about his messages and the statement is true each time. With each message we reach higher and higher in Christ. Therefore every single time you hear and receive what is being offered in a sermon you change and grow as you advance to a new level in Christ. Personally I can’t wait for the next one!
Pastor Terrell’s message began with him stating that when the great temples were made they were dedicated back to God. When we understand that God is living within us then we need to dedicate our temples. The apostle Paul realized that God’s presence no longer dwells in the buildings but it dwells inside of us.
Paul knew that we would not feel worthy of God living within us. Because of sin we were supposed to have death. We really are not worthy but it is by the grace of God that we don’t. In Romans 12: 1 Paul states, “I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Mercy snatched us out of harm’s way. It is not by anything that we have done under our own power but it is by God’s grace that we are worthy.
Now when you feel as though you can’t get a prayer through or that it is ineffective, it is because of guilt. Guilt is still present in us because we don’t realize that it is God’s mercy that pulled us through. The other thing is that we have not repented of our past issues. When we remove guilt out of our lives then our prayers will be more effective.
Next we looked at Genesis 4:10 where God is speaking to Cain. “And he said, what hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.” Whenever God asks a question He already know the answer. He does this to get us to think about what we have done and to get us to repent. Because Cain did not repent all that God could hear was the voice of his brother’s shed blood. When you cover it up, that issue that you are crying out to God about will be hindered. Once you repent God will hush it up for you and hear your prayers.
The next scripture passages we reviewed were 1 Peter 3: 9-12.Here Rev. Terrell showed us how to transform our minds. We are warned not to, “Render evil for evil, or railing for railing but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called that ye should inherit a blessing.” Don’t do evil for evil. And when others do evil to you bless them. As you bless them you are sowing a seed for your harvest.
Verse 10 states, “For he that will love life and see good days let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips that they speak no guile.” Basically you have what you say. If you speak evil you get evil. If you speak good you get good. Good and bad can’t spew out of the same fountain!
Our next tie-in with the message is Romans 12: 12 which, shows us that we can prove what is good and acceptable by, “Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer.” The purpose of the temples that were built was to worship the Lord. In our bodily temple we sing His praises. We cry out His truth. In prayer we cry out His truth. Everywhere we go we cry out His truth!
The last text we examined was Isaiah 38: 18-19. Hezekiah is speaking here and he said that he was one that praises and celebrates God. This great praise saved his life. Also that fact that he was willing to teach the younger generation gave him a longer life. God’s Word is true and it does not fail!
Pastor Terrell used the principle of Seedtime and Harvest to further emphasize the importance of dedicating your temple. Everything that you do reaps a harvest. If you do good, good returns to you.
First you will reap what you sow. You will reap when you sow. You will reap where you sow. Some people don’t sow anything because they are afraid of making a mistake. If you are not doing anything you won’t get anything.
In addition you will reap more than you sow. Make sure that you are sowing the good stuff. Finally you will reap in a different season than when you sow. Think bout this. When a farmer plants he does not expect to see his harvest the next day. In faith he continues his work expecting to see his harvest to come in its season.
This message from Pastor Terrell truly is life-changing if you are willing to receive it. If only you could have witnessed the passion that he had for this sermon. Those that did they understand. My mere words only give you just a taste of the worship experience for that day. Read the scripture references mentioned here and let the word of God transform you. All of them prove each other. Repent of those past issues, remove the guilt and dedicate your temple as a house of prayer. Glory be to God!
