At the Morgan County Commission meeting on July 2, a petition was made for the construction of an addition to the fellowship hall of Lake Oconee Baptist Church.

The petition was brought forth by Milford Construction on behalf of Lake Oconee Church to ask for a conditional use permit to allow building the addition.

The addition would be a 25-foot extension to the hall and used for food bank storage along with the possibility of it being additional classroom space later on.

Senior Planner Tara Cooner said that no additional parking or restrooms would be necessary.

No one from the public spoke either for or against the petition.

The petition for the addition to the church was met with unanimous approval by the board of commissioners.

In other news: Commissioners unanimously voted to support and extend a development agreement for the Madison Lakes subdivision for another five years, based on a request from residents there and the developer.

Following the vote, members of the audience clapped.

And commissioners went into closed session to discuss pending litigation and real estate matters. No votes were taken following the closed session.
