Coming off of what Malone described as “a terrible whipping,” the Morgan County Bulldogs got back to a routine of successful practices Monday morning, preparing to take on the Elbert County Blue Devils this Friday in Elberton.
Elbert County has a 3-2 overall record so far this season but has a perfect 2-0 record in the region so far, coming off of wins over East Jackson and Oconee County in the past two weeks.
Last year, Elbert narrowly eked out a 29-22 win over the Bulldogs. The loss was heartbreaking for the Dogs who came back after being down 29-7 at the end of the first half to hold Elbert scoreless in the final two quarters and get within four yards of the tying touchdown late in the game, only to turn the ball over on a fumble.
Coach Malone anticipates that this season’s game against Elbert County will be just as exciting.
“We’ve got great plans on offense and defense,” said Malone about the Bulldogs’ preparations for the Blue Devils. Malone described Elbert as a “fast, explosive team” that utilizes their players as “dynamic weapons” on offense while maintaining a physically imposing line.
The Morgan County-Elbert County matchup this week should prove to be one of the most exciting games of the season, which should outweigh the drive that Morgan County fans will have to make to get to the game in Elbert County.
So, hop in the car Friday night, pick up a bite to eat in Athens on the way to the game, and come out to cheer on the Dogs for their third region win of the game.
