Children ages 6-18 are invited to participate in a summer camp that will offer instruction in dance, voice and acting. Boys and girls will be grouped by age and will rotate each day among the three classes. On Friday, they will perform a Showcase on the stage of the Plaza for their family and friends, to demonstrate the skills they have learned. “This is a great opportunity for students to have fun while they learn how to become better performers,” offers Gretchen Perkins, who will instruct the children in vocal technique and teach them a few songs to perform. “Students don’t get much voice instruction in schools due to declining budgets and crowded schedules,” says Perkins who has two daughters in the 5th and 2nd grades. “Children naturally enjoy music. We will share the joy of improving the singing abilities of children and teens.” Ms. Perkins holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois and teaches in her studio in Atlanta.

“Dance is another way for children and teens to enjoy music and rhythm and express themselves through movement,” says Natalie King. Ms. King is on the faculty of Georgia College and State University. She has been actively teaching dance and helping with the production of the “Nutcracker Ballet” and spring musicals at Georgia College. Ms. King holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from the University of Florida. “The children will love the dance and movement activities we have planned for them!”

Though Allison Peaslee is the youngest member of the staff, she has had teaching experience in the theater department of Georgia College. “I love working with students of all ages,” says Allison who will be a senior at the college this fall. She has participated in numerous college productions in the acclaimed Theater Department at Georgia College and is experienced in working with children through her college and community activities.
