It’s happenin’ y’all! The wait is flat OVER! That’s right! Ricardo Casillas has opened his brand spankin’ new restaurant, Ricardo’s Kouzzina at 271 West Washington St., in Madison right across from Town Park (formerly the location of The Ice House restaurant)! Ricardo wanted me to tell all y’all that he’s hostin’ a “soft openin’” from now until July 15 while he waits for his liquor license to be finalized which should be very, very soon! In the meantime, we get to try out the new space and new items! Right so in case you’re wonderin’ kouzzina is the Greek word for Kitchen! OK so here’s the deal! Ricardo took his famous delicious menu from Tequila Express and transported into this beautiful historic space! He also added some new appetizers to the menu and some new entrees! Anyhow, I just flat went over there to check it all out and honey y’all are gonna flip cartwheels! He’s added bright blue awnings outside and painted some accent walls in the same color inside which looks great against the brick interior. Oh and the inside of the restaurant has been super-super cleaned and the beautiful hardwood floors were refinished in a more natural, lighter color! And, Ricardo is takin’ advantage of all of the interior and outdoor spaces to expand the number of total seats! There is dinin’ outside on the patio facin’ Town Park and Ricardo added tables to the tin-roof-covered side porch as well that also features ceiling fans! Plus he has the smaller dinin’ room just off of the main dinin’ room that can seat ‘bout 30 people and it can be reserved for Momma’s birthday y’all! Yes! In fact, Ricardo already has two events reserved for the smaller dinin’ room! Y’all head over and check it all out! He’s open for lunch and dinner this week except will close on this Sunday, but startin’ July 15 he’s gonna be open SEVEN DAYS A WEEK! Yay!

Cockadoodledoo! Cockadoodledoo! What the? Will somebody please catch that ding dang rooster? I mean really! Well since we’re up I might as well take Momma over to H. Porkington’s for breakfast with Chef Gene Bishop! Harris Warbington wanted me to remind all y’all that honey he’s out there sellin’ breakfast at 171 West Washington Street in Madison right next to Town Park! Oh and it’s not just any breakfast . . . honey you can get Just Eggs, with grits or hash browns and a biscuit or toast, a Western omelet, French toast, biscuits and gravy, pancakes or waffle and just ‘bout any ole breakfast side you can flat think up! I’m talkin’ bacon, sausage, fat back, red links, salmon patties or country ham! Lord have mercy! I’ll see all y’all there! Oh and in addition to breakfast with Chef Gene Bishop at H. Porkington’s, Harris wanted to let y’all know that in addition to his fantastic barbecue for lunch, he’s also sellin’ daily casseroles! You got it right y’all! You can pick up Turkey Tetrazzini, Lasagna or Chicken and Dressing for two (only $9) or for four ($14)! Momma and I had to have us some of that Turkey Tetrazzini and honey it was flat fantastic! Go get you some! And, don’t forget to try out La Fonda which is in the same space and features authentic Mexican food! It’s delish!

Ok so the fun starts at 5:30 p.m. and Jamie says to come hungry ‘cause those firefights are gonna be cookin’ up a storm! I’m talkin’ hotdogs and hamburgers from 5:30 ‘til 6:30 and don’t forget the popcorn and cotton candy! Oh and you’ll be able to get your precious child’s picture on the Fire Truck by professional photographer Suzi Q! Ty Rumble’s gonna perform on the gazebo and there will be face paintin’ too!
