A beloved Morgan County animal control officer died in a tragic motorcycle wreck last Wednesday. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Cedric Tremayne Ward, 39, Greensboro, was killed at approximately 7:53 a.m. while traveling west on Georgia State Route 12 (Greensboro Highway).
Reports state that the 2006 Honda motorcycle Ward was driving struck a deer. Ward was on his way to work at Morgan County Animal Control when the accident occurred. After the motorcycle struck the deer, the bike slid 40 feet before leaving the roadway, sliding down an embankment and striking a tree.
Ward was then ejected from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Ward has worked for Morgan County Animal Control since November, 2008. According to Donna Prior, director, Morgan County Animal Control, Ward was a consummate employee and friend.
“He had a way of knowing what had to be done. He would do more than what was required. Everybody loved Cedric.” Prior said even when Ward had to speak to people regarding the proper care and feeding of their animals he did so with empathy and grace. “”People appreciated him and never got angry. He had a good repore with with public.”
