There’s a new team in town. The Scholar Shots are a amateur travel basketball team that had a lot of success in its maiden season. “I would like to send a very special thank you out to every parent that in some way, shape, form or fashion contributed to the success of these young men,” said Morgan County Teacher and Coach Betty Webb.

The Scholar Shot team was comprised of middle school boys, ages 14 and under. The team was a huge success in its first season, landing a record of 21 and 10. Their overall record was not the only thing that was a success about this team. Their individual tournament records were also impressive. The team won the North Georgia Shootout in April with an undefeated record.

Then in their first showcase tournament the Scholar Shots secured the runner-up position. The showcase field was tough with teams coming from Louisiana and Tennessee. Webb went on to say that the team was loaded with talent and skill.

The Scholar Shot was able to play in, and subsequently ranked number seven, in the YBOA Georgia State Tournament. The seventh place finish qualified the Shots for the National Tournament. The team went on to participate in tournament held in Orlando, Florida on June 29 through July 5.

The team competed hard at the tournament. “A special thank you to our community churches who helped fund our trip by their gracious donations,” said Webb. “Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to make this inaugural season a wonderful one.”
