On March 14 a forgery complaint was filed at the Madison Police Department after a man alleged that his niece had forged a power of attorney document in order to have a car she purchased placed on the complainant's auto insurance policy. According to reports, the man said he received a notice from his insurance company that a Taurus had been placed on his policy. The complainant disputed the inclusion and the insurance company, reports state, sent him a copy of a power of attorney agreement that showed his niece had the authority to handle the man's affairs. The niece denied forging the document to authorities but did state that she had briefly attempted to purchase a Taurus but later returned the vehicle without completing the deal. The niece also told officers that she had recently been released from the hospital and was under the influence of several medications.
On March 17 a larceny complaint was filed at a North Main Street residence after a woman reported that someone entered an unsecured storage shed on her property and removed a Troybilt gas powered leaf blower. The woman said in the past she has had two chain saws and a pressure washer stolen from the building.
On March 19 a simple assault complaint was filed at a North Main Street restaurant after a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had confronted her at the restaurant regarding a cell phone bill. The woman said during the confrontation the man allegedly grabbed her by the hair.
