Maude Hunt Pitts

Maude Hunt Pitts, 100, died March 19, 2013. She was born May 2, 1912 to Claud and Florence Hunt in Jones County. She was the first of six children. She was a life member of Greenwood Baptist Church in Shady Dale. She married Arnold Pitts on December 16, 1932 and they were blessed with five children.
She was affectionately known as Ma, Big Ma and Ma Maude by her many grandchildren; their visits were the highlights of her life. She was an avid gardener, quilt maker and a gourmet cook. She was a life member with 70 years of service of Floral O.E.S. Chapter # 100.
She leaves to cherish her memory five devoted children, Willie Frank (Eura Mae) Pitts, Ruby M. Pitts, Florence (Robert) Scarebrooks, Annie M. Simmons (Frederick), and Rosa M. Pitts; one sister Hattie C. Hunt, 13 grandchildren (one deceased), 20 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23 in Greenwood Baptist Church in Monticello with the Rev. Nicholas A. Curry, Pastor, Officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Daniel, Cedric Huff, Dexter Pitts, Willie F. Pitts Jr.,  Kendrick Simmons and Roosevelt Logan. Flower attendants were Sierra Canteen, Ashley Elder, Briana elder, Martha Harris, Kayla Magee, Kristian Magee, Charlene Reynolds and Kortne Simmons.
Jones and Turner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Richard (Rich) Lee Dineley, III

Richard (Rich) Lee Dineley, III, 62, of Madison, lost his four-year battle with cancer March 18, 2013.  He was at home beside his beloved wife, Candace, when he entered into the arms of  the Lord.
He was born September 2, 1950 to the late Richard Lee Dineley, II, and late Virginia Murray Dineley.  He was born in San Francisco, California, and as a child made his home in many places as he traveled with his parents and siblings to Army bases throughout the world.  His teenage years were lived in Huntsville, Alabama.  In June, 1970 Richard joined the United States Air Force and service in Crete, Greece as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War as an Arabic Linguist until December 1974, when he was honorable discharged.  As an adult, he lived in Maryland, Virginia, Texas, Missouri and settled in 1991 with his lifetime mate in dreamy Historic Madison, Georgia.
Richard is survived by his wife of 23 years, Candace Ann Dineley; one daughter, Katherine Anne Dineley of Olney, Maryland; one son, William Michael Dineley of San Francisco, California; one stepson, Shawn Michael Lewis of Marietta; and one stepdaughter, Kimberly Ann Chandler also of Marietta; two sisters, Patricia Dineley Muscolino of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Virginia Murray Dineley of Raleigh, North Carolina.
During his life he was employed by Rockwell International of Dallas, Texas, COMSAT of Washington, DC, Sprint Corporation of Kansas City, Missouri, and British Telecom of London, England.  He then formed his own business, Delta Vectors, LLC in 1993 and continued his business until his passing.  Richard was recently and Instructor at Becker CPA Review-DeVry University and a Finance and Business Instructor at Georgia Military College.

John William Hanson

John William Hanson, 91, of Rutledge, died March 26, 2013. He was born in Morgan County on May 11, 1921 to the late Lena Mae Peters Hanson and the late John Leonard Hanson. He was preceded by his wife, the late Edna Malcom Hanson.
Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Patsy Hanson of Rutledge; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances Little of Rutledge, Christine and George Brown of Rutledge, Ruby and Edwin Little of Bishop, Dorothy and Jack Dillard of Snellville; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Jackie Hanson of Rutledge; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Malcom officiating. Interment followed at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

Gary Antonio Carter

Gary Antonio Carter was born June 28, 1958 in Morgan County to Oscar Reid and Addie Lee Carter Johnson. His stepfather Emory Johnson preceded him in death.
Gary joined Calvary Baptist Church at an early age.
He graduated from Morgan County High School in 1976. He was a dedicated worker to the following employers, Wellington Puritan Mills, Ivex Corporation and Penn-Pak in Madison. He married Linda Furlow and to this union one son was born, Antonio Carter. He also has a daughter, Brittany Denise Carter.   
Gary, affectionately known as “Hound” was loved for his smile and sense of humor. He enjoyed joking, laughing and grilling and never met a stranger. He loved spending quality time with his family. He had a big heart and didn’t mind doing anything for anyone. He will be truly missed by many forgotten by none.
On March 24, 2013 Gary entered into eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his fun-loving memories his son and daughter, Antonio Montez Carter and Brittany Denise Carter; two grandchildren, Serenity Arielle Carter and Sanaa Regina Lee Carter; his mother Addie Lee Carter Johnson and father Oscar (Barlenne) Reid; three brothers, Larry Darnell Carter of Madison, Ricky (Teresa) Carter of Athens, Emory Johnson III of Athens; two sisters Towanna Reid of Atlanta and Lula Mae Mathis of Athens; and a God-son Adrian Foster. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.

Pall bearers were his cousins; honorary pall bearers were members of MCHS Class of 1976. Flower bearers were his cousins; and Honorary Flower Bearers were members of MCHS Class of 1976.

Odessa Mitchell Elder

Odessa Mitchell Elder passed away March 29, 2013 in Rutledge.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 336 East Main Street, Rutledge, at 1 p.m. The body will lie in state from 12 p.m. until the hour of service. There will be a visitation on Friday, April 5 at Jones and Turner Funeral Home Chapel from 5 until 7 p.m.
Family and friends please assemble at the family residence 211 Hollis Street, Rutledge at 12:30 p.m.

Gary H. Pitner

Gary H. Pitner, 63 of Bishop, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, following an extended illness.  Mr. Pitner was born in Atlanta, to Harvey A. and Ernestine Loveless Pitner on July 28, 1949. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was the owner of a lawn maintenance company.
Mr. Pitner is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann Pitner, his daughter, Julie Pitner Benkoski, his son-in-law, Jim Benkoski, and an aunt and uncle Mildred and Herbert Waterhouse of Atlanta. He is also survived by a large extended family of sister and bother-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services was held at the home of Julie and Jim Benkoski at 3471 Doster Road Rutledge, GA 30663 on Friday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Burnham officiating.  Visitation with family began at 1 p.m. just prior to the service.
