Even on the other side of the world, you can find common ground.
This discovery was made by a group from Madison Baptist Church, two adults, Doug Atkins and Katie Anderson and six high school students, Lydia Adkins, Daniel Cochran, Olivia Cochran, Kathryn Gailey, Reed Pagett and Samuel Smith, on a mission trip to Kwangju, South Korea. The trip lasted nine days, including travel time, from July 20-29.

Morgan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary holds annual Festival of Friends fund-raiser last weekend
The Morgan Memorial Auxiliary hosted their 12th annual Festival of Friends fund-raising event at locations throughout the county last Saturday, Aug. 18.
The event started with a doctor-sponsored cocktail party and raffle at the James Madison Conference Center at 6 p.m. and themed dinners followed beginning at 8 p.m.
Themes for the event’s 10 parties included: “Downton Abbey,” “Big Pickins with all the Fixins,” “Dinner at Eight,” “Gone with the Wind,” “A Delectable Night in Italy,” “Not the Taj Mahal,” “A Trip to Bountiful,” “A Victorian Evening to Remember,” “Blue Lawn Party” at Madison Oaks and “Food Network–Madison Style.”
The Auxiliary’s activities – Festival of Friends, Love Light Tree and donations – have brought almost $300,000 to the hospital over the past 12 years. These funds have been used to purchase surgical equipment, medication dispensing systems, defibrillators and electronic medical system enhancements for the hospital, according to Festival of Friends literature.

Each year, just before it’s time for Morgan County’s students to pack up their backpacks and start back to school, Morgan Memorial Hospital teams up with Morgan County Family Connection to host a Back-to-School Rally and Community Health Fair.
Education-related organizations and school officials attend, and so do the county’s health-related businesses, many providing free screenings and advice for the young and old.
This year’s event, again held on the front lawn of Morgan Memorial Hospital, was this past weekend, the morning of Aug. 4.
