Olen L. Wells Sr., 78, of Newborn died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Abbey Hospice Respite Center in Social Circle.
He was born March 25, 1930 in Rockdale County to the late Charlie Golden and Louise Smith Wells.
Mr. Wells worked 21 years at the General Motors Plant in Doraville and left their employment in 1969 to take up farming full-time in Morgan County with his partner, George A. Brown. He loved farming but had to retire in 1995 due to health issues.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy L. Wells, son and daughter-in-law Olen L. “Buddy” Wells Jr. and Rhonda, daughter Melissa Joy Wells and dear family friend Beth Summerour; his siblings, Shirley McClendon of Stockbridge, Sybil and Mack Lord of Griffin, Pat Bryant of Griffin and Jim and Betty Wells of Monticello; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was officiated by Pastor Danny Sorrells on Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
A. E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
