Mattie Mae Adams
Mattie Mae Adams, 87, of 104 Tecumseh Avenue, Eatonton died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at her residence. She was born March 28, 1921.
A native of Putnam County, she was the eldest daughter of five children born to the late Oscar Little Sr. and Ola Little Greer. She was united in marriage to Albert Adams on March 6, 1941; all preceded her in death.
Mattie or “Tom,” as she was affectionately called, joined the St. John A.M.E. Church in September, 1939. She was the oldest living member of St. John A.M.E. Church, where she served as a Stewart and a Stewardess until her health declined. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #583 and was a member of the Colored Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 80.
She is survived by an adopted daughter, Janet Ruth Paul of Buckhead; niece Tammy King of Cedar Hill, Texas; nephew, Arthur King of Colorado Springs, Col. and Oscar (Dr. Seborah) King; a devoted friend and caretaker, Gus Davis and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 31 at St. John A.M.E. Church, 220 Willie Bailey Street, Eatonton. The Rev. Wayne Griffin, Sr., Pastor officiated. Interment was at East Eatonton City Cemetery.
