Clarence Briney

Clarence Briney, 68, died December 16, 2008.  He was born February 28, 1940 to the late Ezell Briney and Dorothy Porter Briney. He grew up in the Rutledge community. At an early age he joined Macedonia Baptist Church.

He was a faithful and loyal employee of Mr. and Mrs. James and Frances Griffin for 40 years. He was also employed with the State of Georgia where he retired after 27 years of service.

His son Randy, his brother David and a sister, Eunice Briney, all preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charlie Mae; two daughters, Donna Briney and Lisa Green; four sons, Bobby, Jimmie, Barnard and Terry Rivers; one son-in-law Ollie Rivers; three sisters, Doris Nell Hicks, Florine (Eddie) Head and Emma Briney; four brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Ezell (Ester) Briney Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lee (Rachel) Briney, Jessie Briney and Thomas James Briney; two sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. (Robert) Frankie Glosson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert) Mary Ann Lawrence; one brother-in-law, T.P. Pierce and a host of nieces and nephews. Clarence was affectingly known as “Papa” to 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at 12 noon Saturday, December 20 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Rutledge with Pastor Robert Terrell officiating. Interment was in Union Springs Cemetery, Rutledge.   

Pallbearers were Robert Lawrence, Gary Robinson, Jackie Pierce, Eddie Robinson Jr., Robert Frank Glosson, and Terry Rivers. Flower girls were Lashanda Gates, Angela Gleaton, Kathy Bailey, Felicia Sanford, Sheila Hicks, Carolyn Robinson, Sheila Benford, Connie Brazel and Gwen Hicks.

Mapp-Gilmore Funeral Services, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
