Grace Bible Church to celebrate anniversary

Special to the Citizen

In 1824 the forward looking citizens of Buckhead decided to build a school and a church. A school was built on the site near the railroads and declared anyone who wanted to worship on Sunday could use the building. For about 90 years this worked well. Then a fire broke out and destroyed the wood frame building in 1915. The towns people were still very community wise and rebuilt the building but this time they was stronger materials. The brick building which stands on this site from 1915 to this day has been a school but some where along the way the school classes ended. Church became it's only function. The United Methodist claimed it for it's own and has been a Methodist Church until 2005 when a local group of citizen wanted to rent it for a church. That is when the name was changed to Grace Bible Church of Morgan County. From August of 2005 this local group of believers have been worshipping in this buidling. They were only renting it and it still belonged to the United MEthodist Council. Then the building was offered to the believers of Grace Bible Chruch to purchase. This took place last spring and has belonged to the local Buckhead congreation ever since. Now the job of paying off the morgage is the goal.

This group of local church members have been busy doing the work of the Lord. The church will celebrate on September 7 their first Anniversary Service. Sunday morning services begin at 9:00am with worship service. Then Sunday School is followed at 10:30 am with classes for all ages. Between Worship service and Sunday School is a breadfast and a time of fellowship. Then at 6:30 pm is the evening service and a time for children is run by Julia Duff. On each Wednesday night at 6:30 pm a Bible Study is held at this wonderful old building. Once again the children are not forgotten and a time of study is open to them.
Now this coming Sunday will be special with an "Open House" and cookout. Anyone who comes by to see what is going on can share in lunch of 'burgrers and dogs'. Our purpose is to tell everyone what Jesus has done for us and would love to share it with everyone.

We have been very active in the community and would love to share with you readers what we have done. Beside the regular services we have a radio program each Sunday morning at 8:00am on WYTH 1250 on your AM dial. Grace also has VBS each spring and activties for the teens often thanks to Scott Lindsey. Mission trips to Peru is a new additon to our activities.

The key to Grace Bible is their love and williness to teach the Bible. We begin and end with the Word of God. Nothing is more important than God's Word. We would love to invite anyone to come and share a service with us soem Sunday. Everyone is welcome and we would love to sahre this open house with anyone who can come by Sunday.
