Morgan County made Momma so proud she’s just a grinnin’ like a goat in a briar patch packed with black berries! She flat can’t believe the response we got from all y’all on those name ideas for those boys over in Atlanta who started the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation to take our Buckhead away so they can have their own Buckhead city! I mean if their brains were dynamite, they wouldn’t be able to blow their dag blasted noses! Momma says they think the sun comes up just to hear themselves crow! Well honey . . . we’ll give those boys somethin’ to crow ‘bout all right! I mean I almost feel sorry for those boys – almost! Y’all need to vote for your top 10 favorite Alternative Names for that hooty-snooty Atlanta Buckhead neighborhood ‘cause they can’t have our Buckhead or its prized zip code! Once the votes are tallied, we’re gonna send the top-10 names to that thar Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation for their serious consideration! In the meantime, we ought to ask John Sherman, the foundation’s president, if he’d participate in a fundraiser for the Morgan Memorial Hospital Foundation! Yeah! We’ll get us up a great big ole dunkin’ booth and sit Mr. Sherman in it and charge $5 a throw to dunk ‘em! We’ll make thousands and thousands! Now that puts the pepper in my gumbo!
Y’all go to page ___ for the ballot, vote and turn it in to the Morgan County Citizen located at 235 South Main Street in Madison! You can also call in your names to the Citizen at 706-342-7440 or email them in at HYPERLINK "mailto:pdyost@aol.com" pdyost@aol.com. Oh and write-in names are welcome. One more thing: We had a couple of names that didn’t make the ballot – a decision made after serious consultation with the Citizen’s Southern Manners Expert Ms. Tri-Bee Frances Brewer! These two names both used the compound word structure beginnin’ with “Buck.” One (submitted by Doc Bennett) ended with “hole.” The other (submitted by a Madisonian whose identify shall remain anonymous based on his wife’s insistence) ended with “off.” Ms. Tri-Bee flat says those two names are just too ding dang scandalous!
Right! Well we do have a couple of Biz Buzz items to get to before votin’ time! First up is ‘bout the Chick-fil-A located at 1781 Eatonton Road in Madison! That’s right! They’re hostin’ their fourth annual Cow Appreciation Day on Friday, July 11! Honey, you can even get a free Chick-fil-A meal if you COME TO THE RESTAURANT FULLY DRESSED AS A COW! Ding dang! Momma! Break out the Singer Sewin’ Machine and sew us up a couple of dairy cow costumes! Mooooove it! Oh and you also can have your picture taken with a cow, enjoy free give-aways and sample some of Chick-fil-A’s new menu line-up! Yummy! I’ll see all y’all there!
Keith Rex owner of J&K Fleas An’Tiques at 184 South Main Street in downtown Madison wanted me to tell y’all that he’s re-opened his shop of the same name in downtown Rutledge located at 122 Fairplay Street on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a clearance and consignment center with prices slashed, slashed, slashed up to 40 percent off! Wow! Honey get me my handsome husband’s credit card and fast! Keith says new items arrive every single Saturday! Y’all head over there this Saturday and get a deal, deal, deal!
Y’all don’t forget ‘bout the Concert on the Green this Thursday night, July 10 beginnin’ at 7 p.m.! Bring your family, friends, picnic and cool beverages for a fantastic night of jazz! Honey I’m already just a snappin’ my fingers like a cool cat!
That’s it y’all I’ve gotta go! Pawpaw just came in with a bushel of just-picked sweet corn! I reckon Momma and I are gonna be shuckin’, blanchin, coolin’ and freezin’ that sweet corn all ding dang day! Y’all be real sweet and I’ll see you next week: Same time.
